Built by a pilot who got tired of scraping frost

Hi, I’m Austin Champine. I’m an electrical engineer and commercial multi-engine pilot, and I run Thaw Aviation out of Duluth, Minnesota.

You know the morning. You walk out to the airplane and the wings are white. You can wait for the sun, scrape and hope your paint survives, or pour on something the airplane was never meant to see.

I’ve lived that morning for years. I studied electrical engineering at Michigan Tech, flew all throughout college, and started my career at Cirrus Aircraft as a flight test engineer. Through all of it, cold-weather flying kept putting me at the same tie-down with the same problem.

So I built the tool I needed: a heated, hand-pumped, stainless steel tank that melts frost off before engine start. Simple, durable, and made by someone who uses it.

Got a question, or a morning story of your own? I’d like to hear it. Reach out at info@thawaviation.com
